Righeira is an Italian musical duo composed of Stefano Righi (aka Johnson Righeira) and Stefano Rota (aka Michael Righeira). Formed in the early 1980s, the group—also known as Michael & Johnson Righeira—created a sound that blended synth-pop, Italo disco, disco, and electronic music.
Active from 1981 to 1988, and then reformed in 1998, they achieved international fame thanks to their iconic hit, "Vamos a la playa," released in 1983. Childhood friends in Turin, the two artists developed their creativity together before signing their first contract with the La Bionda brothers, major figures in Italian disco.
Their single "Vamos a la playa," written by Stefano Righi and composed by Carmelo La Bionda, became a massive hit throughout Europe. Beneath its light and summery surface, the track nevertheless addresses themes related to the future of humanity and nuclear progress.
The song remained number 1 in Italy for seven weeks, became a European phenomenon, and was re-released in numerous countries. Pop icons and pioneers of a hybrid and avant-garde style, Righeira remain one of the most influential Italian duos in the history of Italo disco.
